All the volunteers, dogs and puppies at New Beginnings Pet Rescue thank you for your wonderful support in 2007!!!

As 2008 begins, we would like to thank you for your generous support this past year! Because of you, we were able to respond to the call for help when many animals needed it most. Unfortunately our work is never done.

We would like to ask you to take a moment to reflect on the countless animals in our area and surrounding states that continue to suffer. And to remind you that your support is more important than ever to those animals, and to New Beginnings Pet Rescue.

Please donate now to help the volunteers at New Beginnings Pet Rescue continue our work to end suffering of animals and to give each of those animals their New Beginnings. You can make your secure, tax-deductable donation by simply clicking on the "DONATE" button. :)

Who We Are

We are a group of animal lovers dedicated to saving the lives of companion animals by removing them from high-kill shelters and placing them in foster homes where they will be loved and cared for until appropriate forever homes can be found. We also accept pre-approved owner turn-ins, as long as there is space available. Our generous volunteers provide a home setting where the pets can experience love, warmth and comfort while beginning socialization, training and housebreaking. We believe that education regarding pet ownership and it's responsibilities is an important part of what we do. We promote spaying and neutering of companion animals rather than breeding your pet or buying from a puppy store or backyard breeders. We are always looking for responsible foster homes to help us start these wonderful animals on their path to "New Beginnings". We are a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization. All donations made to New Beginnings Pet Rescue are tax deductable.

Adopting a friend

Our adoption policy is as follows: Please note that we do not adopt on a first come, first served basis. We try to make the best match for the pet and the family situation. You must be at least 21 years of age. You must take your newly adopted pet to the vet within 2 weeks of adoption. You must spay/neuter your new pet at 4 months of age, but no later than 6 months of age. You must bring current dogs to meet a potential dog. You need to bring children when considering a pet. We prefer if all members of the household are present. Vet references, personal references and home visits will be conducted. If for some reason along the way you cannot keep a pet that you adopted from us, New Beginnings will take that dog back, so that it will never again have to experience a shelter setting. Sorry, but until we have more volunteers, we can only adopt to families in NJ. Download an Adoption Application, complete it, save it, and email it to Eek8537430@aol.com. Thank you for considering adoption from New Beginnings Pet Rescue!

WE NEED FOSTER FAMILIES!

Look at the beautiful faces of our dogs and puppies. There are so many more like them just waiting to come in to safety, but we can only save them if we have foster homes for them to come to. :( New Beginnings desperately needs more foster families in Ocean County and Monmouth County! Because we do not operate a shelter, our need for loving foster homes is ongoing. Fostering is a rewarding way to become part of a rescued dog's journey to a forever home. All veterinary care and medication is paid for by our rescue organization, all you need to do is provide the love! Fostering can last from just a few days to several months. The more foster homes we have the more dogs we can save. PLEASE won't you help? If you are interested in fostering, download a Volunteer Application complete it, save it and email it to Eek8537430@aol.com.

Ashely Was Adopted!!

ASHELY HAS FOUND HER FOREVER HOME!! Ashely is a gorgeous female 5 month old Miniature Poodle. She is an active and extremely loving baby! She loves to be held and brushed just as much as she likes running and playing!! She weighs between 10 and 12 pounds. Ashely was able to enjoy the holiday in her new home !

Beemer Has Found His Forever Home

Beemer is a Tibetan Spaniel who came to us after he was dumped in the metal box outside the shelter. They were going to put him down because of his deformity, but at 10 months old, we thought that he deserved a chance. Beemer is not paralyzed. He was born with several bone deformities in his back legs, and so his joints are fused together. He has complete control of his bladder and bowels. He doesn't drag himself, he more or less hops.

Beemer has received his cart, but due to his unusual shape, it doesn't fit him. Because his knees don't bend, they won't stay down in the saddle/seat.

The people at the cart company asked us to bring Beemer to them to be measured and to fabricate a cart just for him, so we took the trip to Massachusetts for a few days. We were happy to make this happen for him, and the cart company says that by fabricating a cart with a special saddle, etc, he will be able to help other dogs that need this type of cart in the future, and will make Beemer's life a whole lot easier!! Beemers cart will be only the second of it's kind. It is a prototype make especially for his type of handicap. We thank Eddie's Wheels for going the extra mile for Beemer!!! Beemer was given his name because soon he will have some very fancy wheels! :)

!! MOMMA DOG!! MOMMA DOG AND ALL OF HER PUPPIES HAVE FOUND THEIR FOREVER HOMES!! READ THEIR STORY BELOW:

Momma Dog was surrendered to a shelter when she was in labor. This little 8 pound girl delivered 5 beautiful puppies in that shelter. She and her pups had to wait several days in that awful shelter before they could be rescued in case "the original owers had a change of heart"!!

She came to us with a Cherry Eye, and more importantly, a ruptured corneal ulcer of the right eye, caused by either an eye infection that was left untreated, or a trauma to the eye.

The vet says that she will need to be operated on by a Canine Opthamologist in order to save her vision! It is urgent that she get this corrective surgery or she will lose the sight in her right eye!!! We were given estimates of $1800.00 to $2600.00 for the surgery. We were told that the amount could be cut in half if we just have the eye removed!!! We certainly don't want to do that if it can be avoided!!!

Momma is sweet, sweet Chihuahua, and a really great Mom. We are sure that she would like to see her babies grow up. Can you please help??

MOMMA DOG UPDATE: Momma Dog has seen the opthamologist many times, but he feels that until he can close the hole in her cornea, he cannot perform surgery. We are administering drops several times a day and also checking that her sight is still intact. Hopefully we will have a more positive update soon!!

MOMMA DOG UPDATE 2: Momma Dog's ruptured corneal ulcer has healed, the infection is gone, and her eye is no longer leaking fluid. Her Cherry Eye has been repaired! Momma still has a blue haze over her eye, and always will, but she does have sight in both eyes!! Momma dog has what is called Keratitis (dry eye) and will require 1 drop in each eye twice a day for the rest of her life. After all this dog has been through, and all the visits to the opthamologist, dry eye is a very minor concern, as long as she receives her eye drops, of which she is very tolerant. Thank you all who have contributed and and sent well wishes for Momma Dog. She is now ready for adoption and is looking forward to having a home of her own!!!

MOMMA DOG UPDATE 3 Momma has found her forever home with a wonderful family!!!

PARKER

Parker is a one year old Shnauzer/Poodle (Schnoodle)mix. Parker and his sister originally came from a bad breeder who sold them to a puppy store, and from there, they were rescued. (NOTE: reputable breeders NEVER sell their puppies to puppy stores or ship internet ordered puppies to people they have never met!!!)

When it was evident that Parker was limping, he was taken for x-rays. It was discovered that Parker had a broken femoral head (this is the top of the long leg bone that fits into the hip socket). Even though he tried to hide it, Parker was in quite a bit of pain.

Our vets concurred that the best way to deal with this issue was for Parker to have what is called a Femoral Head Osteotomy (FHO) which involves removing the head and neck of the femur so that the bone does not contact bone. A fibrous scar tissue then forms a "false" joint. Parker has an excellent prognosis for recovery after surgery and rehabilitation!

A quote for the surgery was $1800.00 to $2000.00. Parker will need to run, and swimming in a heated pool would be great for his rehabilitation. (If anyone in the Toms River area would like to offer their heated pool, please email us)! A donation in ANY amount would be greatly appreciated!! You can donate to help Parker by using Paypal and clicking on the "Donate" button, or you could send a check with a short note indicating that your donation is for Parker's surgery and recovery. (If we should be blessed enough to have any donations in excess of Parker's care, it will be passed on to the next pet in need).

PARKER SURGERY UPDATE: Parker had his surgery alleviate his pain. Parker is recuperating and we will post a follow up next week. PARKER UPDATE 2: Parker went back to the vet for his two week recheck. Unfortunately, Parker is still not using his leg or putting it down at all. He runs, jumps and plays, but does not put his foot down. The doctor again suggested swimming as therapy, and added that he must also have resistance therapy so that he will have to put his foot down. If Parker does not use this leg, the muscles will atrophy. Stay tuned for more updates on his progress!!

PARKER UPDATE 3: Unforuntately, even after extensive resisitance therapy, Parker is still not using his back leg. :( He has another vet appointment next week, and we will see what the next step will be to help Parker recover use of his leg. PARKER UPDATE 4: Parker is putting his leg down quite a bit when he walks now. We will just have to hope that he will continue to improve. PARKER UPDATE 5 Parker is doing very well in his recovery. He puts his leg down all the time now!! Parker is still looking for his forever home. We hope that he finds it soon!

REMEMBER SADIE? SADIE HAS FOUND HER FOREVER HOME!! READ ON FOR SADIE'S STORY: Little Sadie came to us with a complete fracture of the radius and ulna. We just couldn't say no to this 5.8 pound bundle of sweetness! She is only 3 years old!! After more than a year, Sadie has found her forever home with the perfect family for her!! You can read more about the trials and tribulations of Sadies injury and recovery below. Rest assured, Sadie is now safe, sound and spoiled in her new home!!

SADIE UPDATE 1: Sadie is sporting a titanium plate and 4 titanium screws in her leg! (see her x-ray below) Sadie's vet bill is now in excess of $2000.00. Any and all donations towards her surgery and medical after-care, no matter how big or small would be greatly appreciated!! You can make a tax deductible donation! Please click the "Make A Donation"button and you can use Paypal. If you would like to send a check or money order towards her care, please include a note and send it to: New Beginnings Pet Rescue P.O. Box 138 Beachwood, NJ 08722.

SADIE UPDATE 2: Sadie's cast has finally been removed!! She is taking it easy to be sure that she doe not reinjure herself. Sadie has swimming for low impact physical therapy. (Check below for Sadie in her swim vest!!)

SADIE UPDATE #3 : A few weeks ago, one of Sadie's titanium screws backed out. After x-rays and examination, her vet determined that since the leg was strong, and the previous fractures were completely healed, he decided to take out all the screws and the plate, so her future adoptive family (where ever they might be) won't have to worry about surgery again.

SADIE UPDATE 4: Sadie is now good as new and ready for adoption! Thank you to all who donated to Sadie's surgery and to all who inquired about her health!!! Check out her picutures:
